ਉੱਕ ਗਿਆ ਸੁਪਨਾ/ A Dream Deferred

ਕਿਸੇ ਉੱਕ ਗਏ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ ?

ਕੀ ਇਹ ਸੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ? ਧੁੱਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸ਼ਮਿਸ਼ ਦੀ ਤਰਾਂ.. ਕਿਸੇ ਅੱਲੇ ਜ਼ਖਮ ਦੀ ਤਰਾਂ ਭਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਵਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ? ਬੇਹੇ ਮਾਸ ਦੀ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੁਰਗੰਧਿਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ? ਕਿਸੇ ਰਸਭਰੀ ਮਠਿਆਈ ਦੀ ਤਰਾਂ ਖੰਡ ਦੀ ਪਰਤ ਬਣਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ? ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਇਹ ਭਾਰੇ ਬੋਝ ਦੀ ਤਰਾਂ ਬਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ..

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore– And then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over– like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?
