ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਬਾਵਾ ਮੈਂ ਬਨਾਨੀ ਆਂ, ਵੇ ਝੱਗਾ ਪਾਨੀ ਆਂ, ਵੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਦੇਨੀ ਆਂ ਖੇਸੀ , ਸੌਂ ਜਾ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਿਆ ਬਾਵਿਆ, ਵੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਿਓ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ | ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਬਾਵਾ ਨਹੀਓਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ, ਨਹੀਓਂ ਚਾਲਦਾ , ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਈ ਹੁੰਗਾਰਾ , ਨਾ ਰੋ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦੇਆ ਬਾਵਿਆ, ਵੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਪਿਓ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ | ਕਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਲਾਨੀ ਆਂ ਮੈਂ ਟਾਹਲੀਆਂ , ਵੇ ਪੱਤਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ , ਵੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਤਲਾ ਮਾਹੀ , ਕਦੇ ਲਾਨੀ ਆਂ ਸ਼ਹਿਤੂਤ , ਵੇ ਤੈਨੂ ਸਮਝ ਨਾ ਆਵੇ | ਮੇਰੇ ਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਲੱਖ ਗੋਰੀਆਂ, ਵੇ ਤਨੀ ਡੋਰੀਆਂ, ਹਾਏ ਗੋਦੀ ਬਾਲ ਹਿੰਡੋਲੇ , ਹੱਸ ਹੱਸ ਦੇਂਦੀਆਂ ਲੋਰੀਆਂ, ਹਾਏ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਡ਼ਨ ਸਪੋਲੇ |

English Transliteration : Mitti da main bawa banani aan, ve jhagga paani aan, ve utte deni aan khesi , Soun ja mitti diaa baawiaa, ve tera pio pardesi | Mitti da bawa nahion bolda, nahion chaalda , naan hi denda e hungaara , Na ro mitti deaa baawiaa, ve tera pio vanjaara | kade taan main launi aan tahliaan , ve pattaan vaaleean , ve mera patla maahi , kade launi aan shaihtoot , ve tainu samajh na aave | Mere jehiaaN lakhkh goriaaN ,ve tanee doriaaN ,haae godee baal hindole , Hass hass dendiaaN loreeaan, haae mere ladan sapole |

English Translation :

I craft a little clay doll, make it wear little shirt, cover it with a blanket.. Don’t cry little clay doll, Your Dad is abroad..

My little clay doll does not speak, does not respond .. Don’t cry little clay doll, Your Dad is a vagabond..

I planted the sheesham trees, they grew lovely leaves,aah my beloved.. I planted the trees of shehtoot. why don’t you correspond..

The other women of the town, as pretty as me, have kids in there lap.. Sing them lullabies , and my soul is snakes playground.

Appreciable job of translation, Jasdeep.. Keep the good work up. I really loved Punjabi literature and Poetry till high school when I had it as a subject - Have been out of (serious-)touch from a while, but I like to read stuff like this and do find out time for it.
