ਮਾਏ ਨੀ, ਕਿ ਸੂਈ ‘ਚ ਪਰੋ ਕੇ ਚਾਨਣੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਗੰਢ ਦੇ ਨਸੀਬ ਲੰਗਾਰੇ ..

ਮਾਏ ਨੀ, ਪੁੱਤ ਤੇਰਾ ਡੌਰ ਭੌਰੀਆ ਚੰਨ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਨਾ ਕੁਝ ਸ਼ਰਮਾਵੇ..

ਮਾਏ ਨੀ, ਕਿ ਅੰਬਰਾਂ ‘ਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀਏ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਚੰਨ ਦੀ ਗਰਾਹੀ ਦੇ ਦੇ ..

English Translation(Anonymous):

Oh Mother, Living up in the heavens, Give me a mouthful of moon..

Oh Mother , Living up in the heavens Make the stars my fortune

Oh Mother, You woke me up and now give me a bowl of milky moon-shake

Oh Mother, Pass the moonshine through a needle And stitch my tattered fate…

Oh Mother, Your son is bemused, doesn’t know his aim. He asks for the moon and feels little shame.

Oh Mother , Living up in the heavens Give me a mouthful of moon…

English Translation(Madan Gopal Singh):

Residing as you are in the skies, o mother give us a morsel of moon..

Residing as do in the skies, o mother write the cluster of stars in our fortune…

Now that you have woken up your son from sleep, o mother give him a bowl of moon-stirred milk

O mother, threading the needle with moonlight stitch our destiny back from the tatters…

O mother, your son is forever distracted and lost asking for moon he has little sense of shame…

Residing as you are in the skies, o mother give us a morsel of moon…
